Sometimes it takes a couple of steps backward in order to move forward. Likewise, it took the shedding of seasoned members from three different bands: Grade, Zyon, and New Day Rising, to create the fledgling, hybrid band The Black Maria. Compared to the likes of Alkaline Trio and My Chemical Romance, this Canadian group blends hard rock and emo, which has basically become the newly popular "poppy-punk" sound.
Formed in 2002, their debut release on Victory Records, Lead Us To Reason, has continually made critics sit up and take notice, particularly those who mistakenly assumed they were simply in for a Grade-like clone.
The Black Maria, during their short existence, has widely become known as a quintessential, high-energy live band that is utterly concerned with, and easily acquiring, audience approval.
The Black Maria will be appearing with Chevelle at the Riviera on Oct. 14, 2005, Chicago, IL -USA-.
